Off-track garage doors and cable repair in Cape Coral
A door hanging crooked is made safe before anything else, then put back on its tracks and tested.
A crooked door is an unsafe door
Do not try to force it back. When a door comes off its track it is being held by whatever is left, often a single cable, a bent roller or the opener arm. Push it, and the remaining support can let go with the full weight of the door behind it.
Leave it, keep people and cars away from the opening, and unplug the opener so nobody tries it. Then call.
How doors come off track
| What happened | What it does | Usual repair |
|---|---|---|
| Backed into the door | Bends a panel or track, jumps rollers | Realign, straighten or replace track |
| A cable snapped | One side drops, door hangs crooked | Replace both cables, re-seat |
| Roller seized | Drags and climbs out of the track | New rollers, realign |
| Track came loose | Bracket pulled from the frame | Re-anchor, straighten track |
| Obstruction under the door | Door closes on it, slackens a cable | Re-tension, check bottom brackets |
Cables are a pair, like springs
The lift cables run from the bottom brackets to the drums at the top, and they carry the door's weight alongside the springs. They fray from the inside where you cannot see it, and they fail one at a time, which is exactly what drags a door crooked.
Like springs, both cables have done the same work, so both get replaced. A single new cable beside a worn one just moves the problem a few months down the road.
What gets checked before we leave
- Both cables seated correctly on their drums, with equal tension
- Tracks straightened or replaced, and the vertical rails plumb
- Every roller spun by hand, since a seized roller is usually what started it
- Door balance tested with the opener disconnected
- Auto-reverse tested against an obstruction
If a bottom bracket is bent or a panel is cracked where the roller pulled through, we will show you and quote the repair separately rather than quietly adding it.
Bent track or a new section?
A gentle bow in a track can often be straightened. A sharp kink, a split weld or a track that has been straightened before should be replaced, because metal that has been bent twice does not hold alignment, and the door comes off again.
What it costs
Cable replacement is typically $150–$320 for the pair. Putting a door back on its tracks with realignment runs $180–$400 depending on how much track needs straightening or replacing. Seized rollers are $120–$250 for a full set. Full detail on the pricing page.

Off-Track Doors & Cables questions
Call (239) 933-6721 and a technician will talk it through.
Is it safe to leave the door like this overnight?
If it is closed and nobody tries to open it, usually yes. Unplug the opener so it cannot be operated by a remote. If the door is stuck open, call. An open door on one cable is the one to deal with the same day.
Can I push it back on myself?
No. The door is held by whatever support is left, and freeing it can let the full weight go. It is also how fingers get caught between the panel and the track.
Will the door still look the same afterward?
If a panel was dented by the impact, that damage stays unless the section is replaced. We will tell you what is cosmetic and what is structural before quoting.
How long does it take?
Most off-track doors are back in service in one to two hours. Replacing a full track adds time, and we carry common sizes.
Could it happen again?
Only if the cause is left. That is why rollers, cable tension and track alignment all get checked rather than just lifting the door back in.
